Blair's referendum must be on the Constitution
Following reports in the media about the
Prime Minister planning to hold a referendum on Europe, the Leader
of the Conservatives in the European Parliament, Jonathan Evans
MEP, said:
"There must be a referendum on whether Britain
should sign up to the EU Constitution, not on some bogus issue of
staying in or leaving Europe.
The Constitution will transfer a huge number of
powers from London to Brussels. It will mark the biggest change
in the way Britain is run for over 300 years and the people of this
country must have a say.
Tony Blair must give British people their say
on the EU Constitution instead of, once again, trying to deceive
them into believing that he has given in to their demands.
The Prime Minister should come clean now - will
he hold a referendum on the Constitution or not?"
